"Deyr fé, deyja frændr, deyr sjalfr it sama" - cattle die, kinsmen die, you yourself must die.

The blank: Comfort Colors 1717 - 100% ring-spun US cotton, garment-dyed, heavyweight 6.1 oz, relaxed unisex fit, full size range in the options above. Choose a natural, sand or stone colour so the ink reads like ink on old vellum.

Hávamál, "The Sayings of the High One," is Odin's own book of wisdom in the Norse Poetic Edda - a hard-won hoard of proverbs on guests and gifts, drink and friendship, caution and courage. Its most famous verse turns from the practical to the eternal: everything living dies, your herds, your kin, and one day you, but a person's good name, the memory of what they did, never dies at all.

The design: a woodcut of Huginn and Muninn, "Thought" and "Memory," the two ravens Odin sends out across the world each dawn to bring him back everything that is said and done. They face each other beneath the Vegvísir, the runic wayfinder, with staves and bound runes worked through their wings. The verse's opening line sits beneath in the original Old Norse with an English translation, and the full stanza prints on the back, Old Norse beside its English. Printed like an aged woodcut on natural, undyed cotton.

Fit & size: relaxed unisex fit, true to size — order your usual size, or go up one for a roomier look. Message us any time for exact measurements.

Made to order: we print each tee for you when you order. Please allow 3–7 business days to make and dispatch, then standard delivery. Ships worldwide.
