Völuspá, "The Seeress's Prophecy," is the first and greatest poem of the Norse Poetic Edda. A völva - a seeress older than the gods, answers Odin's summons and tells him everything: the shaping of the world, the war of the gods, and the fire and flood of Ragnarök, when even the sun is swallowed and the stars fall from the sky. And then, quietly, the earth rising green again.

The design: a woodcut of Yggdrasil, the world-tree that binds the nine realms, the eagle in its crown, a stag among the branches, and the dragon Níðhöggr coiled and gnawing at its roots, with bound runes worked through the leaves. The seeress's Ragnarök line sits beneath in the original Old Norse with an English translation, and the full stanza prints on the back, Old Norse beside its English. Printed like an aged woodcut on natural, undyed cotton.
