Beowulf Tee — Old English Epic | Palimpsest
"Hwæt!" — the first word of English epic, a shout to a noisy mead-hall: listen up.
Beowulf is the oldest surviving epic in English, set down around a thousand years ago by a poet whose name is lost. It opens by calling a hall to attention — and then unleashes three thousand lines of monsters, kings and gold.
The design: a crested Anglo-Saxon war-helm (Sutton Hoo style) above the whole opening sentence in the original Old English, with an English translation beneath. The opening lines print on the back — the Old English beside Francis Gummere's public-domain 1910 translation. Printed in gold on dark colours, so it glows like hall-fire.
The blank: Comfort Colors® 1717 — 100% ring-spun US cotton, garment-dyed, heavyweight 6.1 oz, relaxed unisex fit, sizes S–4XL.
