Darkness Tee — Byron | Palimpsest
"The bright sun was extinguish'd, and the stars / Did wander darkling in the eternal space."
Byron wrote Darkness in the summer of 1816 — the "year without a summer," when a volcanic eruption half a world away dimmed the sky and killed the harvests. Out of that failed summer came one of the bleakest poems in English: the sun goes out, and the world ends not with a war but with cold.
The design: an eclipse — the extinguished sun, a dark ring with a broken corona — printed in gold on dark cotton, with the opening lines on the back.
The blank: Comfort Colors® 1717 — 100% ring-spun US cotton, garment-dyed, heavyweight 6.1 oz, relaxed unisex fit, sizes S–4XL.
